Gregory Scarpa Jr. is the son of Colombo crime family caporegime Gregory Scarpa Sr. ("the Grim Reaper"), a made member of the Colombo family himself, and a man who served 32 years in federal prison - including twelve years in the ADX Florence supermax - before his compassionate release in November 2020. He now lives in Florida and tells his family's story firsthand.
Born in Brooklyn in 1951, Greg Scarpa Jr. is the son of Gregory Scarpa Sr., a Colombo family caporegime who secretly served as a top-echelon FBI informant for decades. Greg Jr. followed his father into the organization and rose to caporegime himself.
Arrested in 1988, Greg was ultimately sentenced across two separate federal cases. He served 32 years in total, including in the ADX Florence supermax in Colorado and the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York. In November 2020, after a serious battle with cancer, a federal judge granted him compassionate release.
Greg still lives with the lasting health effects of his cancer treatment and continues that fight today. He shares his story publicly and it helps him cover the cost of his ongoing medical care.
